PERFORMANCE DIARY            back to Performance page >>

2002:

Oct 10 — 19 Broadway — Marin
We tried out new 3 part harmonies with myself, Dennis on bass, newcomer, Brandon Lortz on guitar and Josh on drums. I played Wurlitzer and acoustic guitar and we had a ball. And, the Giants won that night.

Sept 3 — Temple Bar — LA

Played to a mellow post Labor Day crowd with me on Wurlitzer Chris, Dennis & Josh. The highlight was actually before the gig: relaxing at the beach with the band all day and then hanging with my folks place where they cooked us an amazing paella under the stars on their back deck.

Aug 30 — Voodoo Lounge — SF

Awesome show with me on Wurlitzer, Chris, Dennis & Josh. Shared this bill with Jenna Leigh's band from LA; she hosts Circle of Songs, a great celebration of songwriters. Legendary bass player, Stu Hamm was also on this bill.

Aug 4 — Tongue & Groove — SF

I played this show solo on Wurlitzer. The crowd was riveted, it was packed and I was opening for Alana Davis. It was a trip to play all my band songs unplugged and solo, but it was really fun. My husband was in the audience and thought it was the best show I ever played, but I bet he's biased!

Aug 2 — Molly Malone's — LA

Crazy show in LA. We played this as an unplugged trio with me, Chris & Dennis. Unfortunately, my Wurlitzer was giving off some kind of crazy hum so we tried to rise above that and the fact that Molly Malone's is a loud, hopping, Irish Bar and here we are unplugged on a Friday night!! Anyway, we did our best. My first piano teacher was in the audience and she gave me an "A" so there you go. My sister showed up during our last song and begged an encore! We shared this bill with the always exceptional Yayo Jones.

July 20 — Blakes — Berkeley

Cool night. My husband filled in on guitar for this gig which is always fun. Amy sang back up, along with Dennis on bass. We did this show unplugged as well; my two drummers, Josh and Tony, were out of town! This was the last show my "Aunt" Tessa Morone saw before she passed away December 26, 2002, to breast cancer.

July 17 — Knitting Factory — LA

USA Songwriter's Showcase, Oh, Man, this was cool. Four singers on stage, singing one song at a time. It's a trippy way to do a show because you have to wait your turn, but we were all supportive and non-catty, so it was fun. It felt like a real honoring of the songwriting process. It was all ages, so my favorite 7 year-old fan showed up and mouthed the words to all my songs with me!

July 12 — Hotel Utah — SF

Cool show. The Utah is a cool historical SF joint. We played this gig with PC Munoz; his band is fun and he has a lot of soul, so we always enjoy hanging. I showcased two new songs that night which we "mostly" got through!

June 25 — The Mint — LA

Awesome show. My folks and sister and her new boyfriend came by. My drummer, Josh, got sick at the last minute, so luckily, Tony played with us on 1 day notice and did a great job. We always love the Mint, with the red leather, the rad, story-filled dressing room, cool staff, and amazing sound guys.

June 23 — Electric Lodge — LA

This was an awesome event my sister put on called "Culture Jam"; she had dancers, poets, rappers, capeoria, etc. I was the "music", which I played unplugged and duo with my husband on acoustic guitar. That was one of the most special experiences ever.

June 14 — Molly Malone's — LA

Crazy, packed, shared the gig with Yayo Jones. Partied a bit too much overall. (Had done a 5-hour recording session that day, proceeded by an all night drive down from SF the night before!)

May 31 — Tongue & Groove — SF

Played this show with my husband subbing on guitar again! I wore white bell bottoms that I hand-studded that day; it was fun! This was fellow singer-songwriter, Pi's CD release so the place was full and we knew a lot of people there.

May 22 — Goldfingers — LA
Played this gig on my Dad's birthday although he was out of the country! We snuck my little cousins into this show which thrilled them. Amy sang especially well that night and we all stayed in my parents house and had too much fun.

May 21 — Highland Grounds — LA

BMI Songwriter's Showcase. This was an honor to be showcased and where we met Yayo Jones. We played this unplugged and made some people cry!

May 18 — Hotel Utah — SF

May 14 — Blake's — Berkeley

May 13 — Berkely Ind. Media (CH 26) — Berkeley

This was with the Rabboni Selah show. He's a wonderful preacher, activist, arts man and we had a blast.

May 4 — iMusicast — Oakland

This is a cool venue with a live web cast.

April 25 — Voodoo Lounge — SF

April 23 — Berkely Ind. Media (CH 26) — Berkeley Chris and I did this unplugged duo live show. We really made music that day!

April 10 — Last Day Saloon — SF

This was an unplugged show. A bit high stress as we were working hard on getting new arrangements and songs down and aiming for perfection. Cool people came out that night though.

April 6 — The Joint — LA

This was a fun unplugged duo show that I played with Josh Workman on guitar. I was on Wurlitzer. The stage is super high and the club is narrow but I always love that joint!

April 5 — Pete's 881 — Club Marin

Woah. No comment.

March 30 — Canvas Cafe — SF

Unplugged with Dennis, Amy and me. Wurlitzer, bass and 2 voices; an interesting arrangement!

March 29 — Hotel Utah — SF

March 20 — Red Devil Lounge — SF

Love this venue. We had a blast that night.

March 19 — Dragonfly — LA

This was Chris and my first unplugged show in LA. I had just finished some new songs and they went over real well. My sister and her whole crew came out. So did my folks and their whole crew. That was a dreamy, magical night.

Feb 21 — Red Devil Lounge — SF

Feb 15 — Dolores Park Cafe — SF

Very cool. This was with Chris on guitar, Gail on vox and myself. Nice to just be guitars and voice. I played a lot of old blues songs and even did a Patsy Cline song. I don't know what came over me. I just had fun that night to a packed house. My friend said she had a spiritual experience that night listening, so who knows?

Feb 10 — Great American Music Hall — SF

What can I say? One of the greatest venues ever.

Feb 6 — Women's Center Benefit — SF

Crazy, San Francisco style. There were a million acts, we were one, raising money for women in need. It was all about the Ladies that night; pink everywhere, lingerie as "formal wear", etc.

Jan 31 — Tongue & Groove — SF

Jan 23 — Red Devil Lounge — SF

Jan 17 — The Oaktree — Oakland

Jan 9 — Red Devil Lounge — SF

2001

Dec 22 — Red Devil Lounge — SF

CD release party, after a serious Red Devil Lounge stint!! We started playing here 2x month unplugged which was awesome. The CD party was cool. I had a million guests come up on stage with me. Had 5 singers, 2 guitarists, 2 keys, drums, bass and even two go-go dancers at one point! It was my little Madonna moment, what can I say!

Dec 19 — Red Devil Lounge — SF

This was awesome and I'll do it again some time. I had myself and two other talented women; Noelle Hampton & Liz Pisco share the night. We each did mini solo sets and then we did awesome arrangements of Christmas songs and each other's songs; it was a night in history. Candles and red and glitter everywhere, all our friends packed the place.

Dec 5 — Red Devil Lounge — SF

Oct 24 — Red Devil Lounge — SF

Oct 17 — The Mint — LA

This was our first LA show and we did it up. I had a great woman manager on the road with us handling everything. The band was in great spirits, the place was packed. It was quite memorable.

Sept 29 — Fillmore — SF

Okay, the Fillmore took my breath away. The best sound stage, staff, dressing rooms, lights, etc, ever! I can't even explain what a high these 2 shows were.

Sept 28 — Fillmore — SF

Sept 26 — Mingles — Oakland

Oh, we love Mingles. A rad, smoky, dreamy joint in Oakland with 9$ cocktails. September 2001 was an intense month for everyone, however, so the mood was still rather somber. I sang God Of Mercy as a tribute to the grief worldwide.

Sept 6 — Voodoo Lounge — SF

Sept 5 — Mingles — Oakland

Sept 1 — Mingles — Oakland

Aug 23 — Last Day Saloon — SF

Aug 9 — Voodoo Lounge — SF

July 26 — Paradise Lounge — SF

Before this club was bought and sold. We played here a lot. This was a fun one with a lot of folks giving a shout out.

July 20 — Dolores Park Cafe — SF

July 17 — Ashkenaz — Berkeley

I shared this gig with my husband's band, R.Will & One Life. His band rocked the house and then my band had a great time. This was with El John on drums and Gail on vox, with Chris and Dennis and producer, Ben Yonas, sat in on keys. We played a bunch of originals and Etta James' "Damn Your Eyes"; El John kicked it off in " but then pulled it together! My folks came up to check it all out. This was the last show my other "Auntie" Louise Taub saw before she also passed away from breast cancer.

June 27 — Eli's Mile High Club — Oakland

Crazy show. Mike Emerson on Hammond B3, plus Dennis, Chris, El John and Gail. Another live web cast with a cool crowd. The funniest thing was my grandma calling from Palm Springs during sound check to wish me good luck. I had sent her a flyer and she up and called the club!

May 27 — Carnival SF — SF

Carnival in the Brazilian sense. I've danced Afro-Samba for a couple of years now with my teacher, Rhonda, who sings with lead with Mara Reggae. She had me on the float with her and we sang and danced and were dolled up in sequins, etc, and had a blast and a half!

May 20 — The Attic Club — SF

Feb 2 — Paradise Lounge — SF

Andre Bush played guitar on this gig and we stayed out way too late after the show, talking and laughing. Thankfully, everyone made it home in one piece!
